Model Covenant Communities

The most successful church communities have emphasized how Christ's bride, the church, informs and influences the entire culture through Biblical worship, leadership, education, obedience, and evangelism. This emphasis on the covenant model extends God's covenant through families, schools, businesses, social welfare organizations, judiciaries, and governments. People see and appreciate God's plan for addressing sins in the classroom, boardroom, courtroom, family room, bed room, etc.

Some of the best examples of covenantal church communities are found in places that have applied the covenantal thinking of Augustine, Calvin, the Puritans and other Godly thinkers who maintained a Bible-based and hopeful worldview. These Christians achieved success by maintaining a very well reasoned normative vision that guides community members in maintaining unified action. We read about such communities in works describing Augustinian monasteries, Calvin's Geneva, and villages influenced by the Puritans.

Enduring communities have reflected God's love and holiness in a way that encourages healthy repentance. Community leaders preach and teach how God's law applies in all areas of life. Members of the community learn to confess how they fail to uphold the law. They learn instead to trust in Christ's forgiveness and hope.

There are some good modern examples of covenantal church communities. Like the historic models, the effective modern covenantal communities are known for their worship services, leadership prayer and accountability groups, extensive education programs, obedient members, and successful evangelism. They place great emphasis on our Lord's teachings about Biblical obedience and repentance. Below is a list of successful contemporary covenant communities.
